Dental Filling

You must have heard “be nice to dentists, they have fillings too”.  Yeah dental fillings are common treatment, even dentists got it, but some people are afraid of it. Let's take a look at what is dental filling, and what are the options available

WHAT IS DENTAL FILLING?

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape.  Materials used for fillings include

WHAT MATERIAL WE USE FOR DENTAL FILLING?

  • Glass Inomer Cement(GIC)
  • Composite resin (which is tooth-colored fillings),
  • Amalgam (which is outdated).

Advantages of dental fillings.

  • The first and the most important advantage of a dental filling is that it prevents the dental decay from progressing further
  • Modern dentistry offers you the best dental filling material which is strong enough to withstand the biting forces
  • Dentists will remove the decay and place a filling material of your choice or advised by the dentist.
  • No one will know whether you have a dental filling or not. Unless you choose an amalgam filling
  • Getting a dental filling can help you save money, time and most importantly a lot of pain. Once the infection reaches the nerve (pulp) it gives a sharp pain.
  • Preventing the dental decay from progressing deep in the pulp is the best way to avoid root canal treatment.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS THAT YOU SHOULD GET A DENTAL FILLING?

  • Check in the mirror, if you can see some black discoloration on your tooth it can be a dental decay.
  • If food is getting stuck in between the tooth
  • If you have a dental decay which is deep you start to feeling sensitivity towards hot and cold food

WHAT IF THE DENTAL DECAY IS VERY DEEP?

Our team is very sceptical about suggesting a root canal treatment for a deep cavity. Most of the time we do a procedure called indirect pulp capping.

WHAT IS PULP CAPING?

Pulp capping is a technique used in dental restorations to prevent the dental pulp from necrosis, after being exposed, or nearly exposed in case of a deep cavity.

It’s recommended that a person should visit dentist for a regular checkup, to identify that dental decay in its early stages, so that a dentist can prevent the progression by giving a dental filling over there.
